December Dental Month
December is dental month at Snug Animal Hospital. Maintaining your pet’s dental health is important, not only so they can chew food, but also to prevent disease in the mouth and body. Most people don’t brush their pet’s teeth either because they are unable or they forget. The next best thing is to have and annual dental cleaning by the veterinarian. For the month of December, we will be offering a 25% discount off of our dental fees. If you have not been in this year for an exam with our doctor, please come in soon for an evaluation, treatment plan, and to get your pet scheduled for a dental in December.
Many people are offering non-anesthetic dentals these days. It is important to know that this is not an alternative to a good dental and can even cause more problems for your pet. When an animal’s teeth are cleaned while awake, the enamel is scratched and will accumulate tartar even faster. In addition, it is virtually impossible to clean below the gum line with an animal awake. This is where the bacteria are and where gingivitis starts. Most importantly, you can’t tell what is happening at the root level without dental radiographs and they cannot be done on an awake animal. It is strongly recommended that dentals be done properly under general anesthesia by a veterinary team.
